Where Can I Get Homework Help

Working closely with your school’s media center, Howard County Library System (HCLS) supplements homework and research assistance. HCLS Instructor & Research Specialists stand ready to work with you.

Online Homework Assistance

In addition to receiving guidance from HCLS staff, students (K-12) and college-age adults can connect with free tutors for assistance with math, reading, science, social studies, English/language arts, and writing. Both English and Spanish speaking tutors are available seven days a week from 2 pm until 11:55 pm. Special thanks to the Howard County Public School System for contributing toward the cost of this service.

Specialized Online Research Tools

HCLS provides thousands of full-text journal, magazine, and newspaper articles through specialized online research tools. Generate ideas for science fair projects by searching Science Reference Center. Research ideas for History Day projects. Enhance your English paper by searching for famous authors in Artemis Literary Sources. Download PDFs of guides with specific research tools for elementary and middle and high school students.

Math Assistance

The HCPSS Family Mathematics Support Center helps families:

  • Gain a better understanding of their child’s math program
  • Refresh or build deeper understanding of math concepts, skills, and practices
  • Provide additional support and practice opportunities for students

LearningExpress Library

LearningExpress Library provides interactive online practice tests in a variety of academic and career related areas. These include advanced placement tests, GED tests, college entrance exams (ACT and SAT), and job related qualification tests in areas such as nursing, the military, real estate, and a variety of public safety fields. This research tool also includes tutorial courses on job related skills, such as resume creation, and subject reviews in such areas as citizenship requirements, math skills, and writing skills. Testing & Education Reference Center

Testing & Education Reference Center offers practice question sets for grades 6-12 in math, science, reading, and writing, as well as practice AP exams and private school admissions tests for high school students. Prepare for college with test prep eBooks for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT, and use the scholarship and college search tools to help select a college. Study for and practice taking graduate school entrance exams, occupational exams, the TOEFL, and the U.S. Citizenship test.
